霍爾效應是電磁效應的一種，這一現象是美國物理學家霍爾于1879年在研究金屬的導電機制時發現的。霍爾效應定義了磁場和感應電壓之間的關系。當電流通過一個位于磁場中的導體的時候，磁場會對導體中的電子產生一個垂直于電子運動方向上的的作用力，從而在垂直于導體與磁感線的兩個方向上產生電勢差。

霍爾效應多年前就已經被人們知道并了解，但基于霍爾效應的傳感器在材料工藝獲得重大進展前并不實用，直到出現了高強度的恒定磁體和工作于小電壓輸出的信號調節電路。根據設計和配置的不同，霍爾效應傳感器可以作為開/關傳感器或者線性傳感器，被廣泛應用于電力系統中。

霍尼韋爾磁性位置傳感器為緊湊型，采用了超小型SOT-23表面貼裝封裝;工作電壓可低至2.7V，減小了電流，提高了能源使用效率;內置的上拉電阻，可以簡化連接;內置反向電壓保護功能，充分保護集成電路在組裝時免受損壞;高耐抗性的設計可適應溫度可達150攝氏度的工作環境。
